Resin overlay driveway prices

Resin overlays are a cost-effective way to smarten up an existing tarmac or concrete drive, as long as the base is still solid and not breaking up. If the base is sound, we can install an overlay without the cost of a full excavation and rebuild.

Resin Overlay — from £40 per m²*

*Based on larger areas with a sound existing surface and generous m² measurements. Smaller or awkward layouts are priced once we've seen them properly.

Small, awkward or heavily cracked areas can cost more per m² because extra preparation is needed and materials are used less efficiently.

When a resin overlay is realistic

  • Existing tarmac or concrete is sound and not moving.
  • No major cracks, potholes or soft spots.
  • Levels and drainage already make sense.
  • You want a smart finish without rebuilding everything.

If you’re unsure whether your driveway is suitable, send a few photos. We can usually tell quickly whether an overlay is sensible or if a full system is the safer long-term option.

What affects resin overlay costs?

  • Area size: larger areas usually work out cheaper per m².
  • Condition of the base: repairs, levelling and crack treatment add cost.
  • Edging details: new blocks, kerbs or setts take extra time and materials.
  • Colour and stone blend: some mixes cost more than standard blends.

We’ll always be honest if an overlay isn’t a good idea — it’s better to rebuild properly than lay resin over a failing base.

Full resin driveway systems

Where the existing surface isn’t suitable to overlay — or where a permeable build is needed for drainage rules — we install a full resin system from the ground up.

Typical guide price

Full resin system with permeable base: starting from £120 per m²*

*Based on sensible sized areas with good access. Includes permeable concrete or permeable tarmac/asphalt base, resin bound surface and agreed edging details.

What’s included in a full system?

  • Excavation and removal of old surfaces where needed.
  • Installation of a strong permeable sub-base and base course.
  • Resin bound surface laid to the correct depth and finish.
  • Edging with blocks, kerbs or setts agreed beforehand.
  • Correct falls and drainage so water runs where it should.

A full resin system costs more than an overlay, but it’s the right approach where the base is poor or you want the driveway built to modern permeable standards.

Is resin right for your budget?

Resin can look extremely smart and is long-lasting when installed properly, but it isn’t always the cheapest choice. Depending on the driveway and how it’s used, other surfaces may suit the budget better.

  • Most budget-friendly: gravel or tar & chip on suitable bases.
  • Mid-range: standard tarmac or block paving driveways.
  • Higher-end: full resin systems or detailed block paving.

Tar & chip guide price: from £20 per m²* for suitable drives and lanes.

*Guide prices are based on larger, straightforward areas. Final pricing depends on access, base condition and finish choices.

We’re happy to price resin alongside other options so you can compare properly and decide what makes sense for your property.

Resin driveway cost questions

How much does a resin overlay driveway cost?

Resin overlays normally start from £40 per m² on larger areas where the base is sound. Smaller or awkward layouts cost more per m² because of extra preparation.

How much does a full resin driveway cost?

Full resin bound systems with a new permeable base usually start from around £120 per m² on sensible sized areas. This includes the base, resin surface and edging.

How do I know if my driveway is suitable for an overlay?

If your tarmac or concrete is solid with no major cracking, potholes or movement, an overlay may be ideal. If the base is failing, a full rebuild will last longer.
